Plant ICON print ( formally Toronto Trade Printer) has moved into a 20,000 sq. ft. plant at 340 Alden Rd. from their original Victoria Park Ave location. They bought the building last year and spent several months moving while still serving customers. With the new location they will be adding  new equipment. ICON print is a trade printer in the greater Toronto Area with offset, digital, die cutting and bindery  capabilities. Xerox and Fujifilm in Talks Wed, 17 Jan 2018 13:51:08 EST Fujifilm has plenty of cash for M&A  The Wall Street Journal and several others in the financial media have been reporting that Fujifilms and Xerox are in talks. The talks may or may not include a change  in control of Xerox. Fujifilms and Xerox have been partners in Fuji Xerox since 1962. Fuji owns  75% of the partnership that sells into the  Asia Pacific market. Printing Trade Show Wars Wed, 10 Jan 2018 20:30:22 EST   To be held in Dallas 2019 will be the beginning of the print trade show wars in North America. SGIA has announced a deal with NAPCO to launch a new printing industry trade show called Print United. The show is to be held in Dallas Texas. The show will be from October 23 to 25 right near Graph Expo in Chicago on October 13 to 16th. How two show both aimed at the same graphic arts industry so close together will work. Two industry Franchisors Claim Top Spot Wed, 10 Jan 2018 19:43:17 EST    Both Fastsigns and Minuteman Press claim in recent press release that they have top spot in US Entrepreneur Magazines ranking of Franchisors. The Franchise issue of the magazine is not out yet. When the magazine was asked who has top spot PrintCAN was told neither is the number one overall. Each are in separate categories one for Sign franchises and one for Printing/ Marketing franchises. Ads are staying up longer and more jobs have been posted for the industry skilled jobs such as offset pressmen, prepress and estimators. Both groups strongly agreed (72-73%) that reading a printed book is more enjoyable than reading a book on an electronic device. Transcontinental Sell Another Newspaper Plant Wed, 3 Jan 2018 18:31:13 EST Transcontinental Fremont Newspaper Plant  Transcontinental has announced that in April , 2018, TC Transcontinental will transfer to Hearst the printing operations of its Fremont, California facility where Hearst's San Francisco Chronicle and its related products are printed, and post-press services are conducted. Under the terms of the agreement, TC Transcontinental will continue printing the newspaper in Fremont for a transition period. Transcontinental will receive  US$42.8 million from Hearst as compensation for the early termination of the printing agreement and  some of its printing equipment. The study period encompasses the timeframe 2006 to 2015. They  started before the onset of the so called Great Recession, which officially began in December of 2007 and officially ended in June of 2009, and include as well the period of slow but steady economic recovery that continues at this time. Generally, total  print sales track closely with overall economic activity or Gross Domestic Product. Print sales typically fall further and faster as the economy declines during the start of a recession.
