New FSC labels must be adopted by July 1, 2011
TORONTO—The Forest Stewardship Council is introducing new standards for its certification labels worldwide. Companies that are currently FSC-certified will have to adopt the new standard from July 1, 2011 onwards. For all new FSC-certification candidate companies, this new standard has been in effect since December 1, 2010.

The new standard includes slight changes to wording, size and other graphic elements. The label categories changes from FSC Pure, FSC Mixed Sources and FSC Recycled to FSC 100%, FSC Mix and FSC Recycled. The Certificate Code number changes to a Trademark LIcense Code number. As well, the new standard introduces a Minimum size label, for those printed pieces too small to fit the standard size label.

Already printed pieces sporting the older labels can of course be distributed beyond the July 1st deadline. Repeat print jobs that will be produced after the deadline must switch to the new standard.

For more on the new required graphic elements, including size, colour, orientation, border and exclusion zone, visit FSC Canada.
