Acuity Solutions in Richmond Hill shuts its doors
RICHMOND HILL—Acuity Solutions Group in Richmond Hill has locked its doors, putting at least 40 employees out of a job.

A spokesperson at receiver Grant Thornton Ltd. confirmed the closure, noting the courts issued a bankruptcy order June 10. There are no solid plans to report for the future of plant as the situation is currently being assessed, said the spokesperson, who noted the company employed 40-45 people.

According to the company's website, aside from printing it provided a number of services including digital photography, digital asset management and marketing promotions.

Litho Guy was right. I was told years ago to stay away from them. What can we do. GM, Chrysler, Air Canada, and many other do it—the definition of restructuring is to screw everyone.

I've been through a foreclosure with the Grafikom fiasco, and now former employees of Grafikom have had to go through it again with Acuity. The owner of Acuity hired half a dozen new employees just weeks prior to the forecloseure. Its not like he didnt know...the creditors give you a heads up, letters, phone calls, meetings. Why would you hire new employees when you know the ship is sinking ( again ). I'm not suprised at the situation, business is tough, but again the employee suffers based on poor leadership, and lack of integrity. Rumours are rampant, but I have my information on good authority...and with any luck we will be able to scoop up some of the employees here as well as a discounted press. To buy the place outright is a mistake, pick up a few sales people, and some key players, maybe a little equipment and turf the rest.....The Acuity brand is dead, two bankruptcies in 36 months....would you want your job locked up when the bank comes again ?

Honestly this was one of the best printers Iíve had the pleasure of working with. Fantastic quality was always delivered on time in a professional manner. That being said this is not the first time they have "Gone under" and it wonít be the last. The only way Acuity will be successful is if the owner sells it and lets someone who understands the industry better run it. If you have great people and high quality work itís not the company itís not the employees so it must be the management.

I am amused by the fact Litho guy and his friend are only picking on this printer without knowing the complete story. There have been so many others that have done worse, with the intention to do so! In this case the intentions were not there from the outset and they tried to restructure once. Anyone who went there recently should have been very careful as the writing was in plain site on the wall.

I agree with Litho Guy, all too often the owners take the suppliers and employees for a ride. Suppliers write down the losses, employees suffer with finding new work and raising families. The owners simply walk away and open up a month or 2 later, suddenly flush with cash taking yet more employees and suppliers for a ride again. Don't feel sorry for the suppliers, it's their own stupidity for offering credit again.

Why is it that everyone assumes that the owners are "running away" with all sorts of money. It is usually just the opposite. While I feel sorry for the employees who lost their jobs, odds are the owner will lose everything!!!!

Hopefully the the owner is on the hook with his personal assets this time. So that he gets to feel a sense of true loss. What goes around comes around.

When will we learn that terms are C.O.D. We are not a bank or credit company. Once again suppliers will be 'taken' with no recourse. Until the industry stops being able to use suppliers as banks to finance their business it should come as no surprise to find another and another bankruptcy. Unless we all smarten up and change what has become the norm it's only a matter of time before the honest business will be in the same bankrupt state !

Before you leave for what you think is greener pastures, make sure you check out the company first. It's easier said than done though sometimes. Industry is in state of flux in last few years; especially in the past two. Closures will continue going forward.

What a Joke, the owner just hired a bunch of folks in the last few weeks, why would you do that to people ? Sad situation and my heart goes out to the employees.
