Hemlock Printers gains Green-e certification
BURNABY, BC—Hemlock Printers in Burnaby, BC has acquired Green-e certification through "innovative ways" to reduce its operational carbon footprint, which has seen a 24% decrease since 2008, according to the company.

Green-e is an independent, internationally recognized certification and verification program for electricity derived from renewable sources. The Green-e re:print program promotes renewable electricity in the print supply chain by granting use of the Green-e logo to organizations that source both their paper and printing from Green-e certified suppliers.

Other green initiatives from Hemlock include its involvement in Climate Smart, a Vancouver-based social enterprise aimed at helping small and medium business measure and reduce their greenhouse gas emissions. They currently have over 550 businesses as alumni in their program, and Hemlock has recently joined those ranks.

FortisBC recently offered business and industry clients the option of signing up for their renewable natural gas. The Renewable Natural Gas program is designed to help companies reduce their carbon emissions while supporting the implementation of renewable energy technologies in BC. "As Hemlock was already a Fortis partner, it was a natural decision, taking another step towards the reduction of its carbon footprint," noted the printer.

Hemlock Printers is one of the largest commercial printers in the Pacific Northwest, and also has offices in Victoria, Seattle and San Francisco.
